This historic gem has been attracting visitors for centuries:
Sir Humphrey Gilbert, who colonized Newfoundland, lived nearby at Greenway and was a regular visitor with his half brother Sir Walter Raleigh.
The famous crime writer, Dame Agatha Christie, visited frequently and was inspired to write Poirot “The Murder on the links” here.
Some years later Bruce Reynolds hid here after the Great Train Robbery.
Police searched but did not find him.
